Another one bites the dust

We are the champions

That’s right, we took down Saurfang Jr.  We were on the ball on Saturday night.  I went in all spazzed out because we had failed so badly on Wednesday only to have everyone exceed far and away beyond my expectations. I also got these boots which are pretty awesome.

Tonight is supposed to be Festergut and an attempt at Rotface.  I keep hearing conflicting stories about Festergut.  One story tells me that as long as everyone is doing 2.5k-4k dps we will be fine.  Another is telling me I need a minimum of 5k on each dpser, yet ANOTHER is saying I need 6k-7k.  I don’t know which one is the right one.  I *think* we have enough dps for it, but I guess we will find out.

Andrew finally got a dual spec on his pally and went holy.  I have agreed to run instances with him to get his “healing” down.  To my knowledge he has never played a healer, so this should be interesting.

Sorry for the short post today, I am kind of brain dead this morning.  Yes I have the day off, but I am still brain dead.

Grats on the kills Echo of Fate! Woot!

Short post is short. Enjoy your day off…./hate!

Hmmm. our last Festergut kill was 4:12. Our lowest DPS was 5.2 our highest was 7944. The tanks pulled in 4k and 3k.

Ahh found it, the kill with 3 seconds left to enrage timer (4:57) the DPS range was 4400, 4500, 5400, 6000, 7235. Tanks pulled 2500 and 2100 DPS.

More DPS will make it safer….5 minutes will go by fast.

Yarr.. you see, wiping 24 times against Marrowgar on wednesday was not in fact incompetence, it was an INCREDIBLY CLEVER PLAN to lull the bosses into a false sense of security so we could steamroll them Saturday. *sagenod*

    We has it.

    re: Festergut DPS-

Eesh. Yeah 9 mil damage in 5 mins should be interesting…

…As for healerin’, yeah.. should be an adventure.. I did play a priest up to 36, but I wouldn’t call that appropriate prerequisite experience, really. I’ve done some research tho and fiddled around with Vuhdo though, so I’ll just have to get my stuff geared and chanted tonight or tomorrow and we’ll see how it goes.

I hear DI-ing the main tank is a good way to start a difficult fight. The tank takes no damage for 3 minutes! No wonder pally healers are so awesome. 🙂

I am sure ya’all will get him down!! 🙂

Druid, shaman, and priest is what we took as our healing team. Shaman spamming heals with me on tanks. Druid on raids and assisting healing tanks.

Save cool downs for about the swap to the 2nd tank as that is when Festergut will be hitting his hardest – each inhale increases his dmg and attack speed. Pain Suppression imo helps a lot. 2nd tank will want to save his cool down for Festerguts last inhalation imo. Also before he is about to exhale, HoTing up people, shielding people out helps, especially if someone did missed getting innoculated once.

After doing a bit more research, 5k DPS is the MIN that each person needs to be doing overall, hence if ya we have a 4k and a 6.5k it will average out. It is also recommend that when the stacks play swap, the other tank does whatever they can do to maximize DPS (i.e go out of Defensive stance, go into Blood Presense, or remove Righteous Fury – this is strictly for threat). So for Echo, we may have to skip him until we as a guild are able to pull him off, as of right now, none of us are pulling that much DPS except for Corvine.

So we may need to “gear” up our DPS toons a bit more on the fights we can accomplish until such time as our gear will reflect higher dps output by us all.

And nothing against Mis or any of the other guild tanks(myself included), but their gear will HAVE to improve to help survive that fight (5.1-5.2k GS min), by the 3rd inhale phase the tank will be taking an additional 90% damage from Festergut, with raid damage being dealt out in minimal amounts.

So for a while we may be doing nothing more then, doing the daily random for Frost emblems collecting Frost emblems from the bosses we can down now, getting all the gear we can off them, running VoA 10/25 each week will get us 4 more in total from the new boss, and doing whatever it takes to get the higher crafted stuff to gear us a guild.

I know we can do it, it just might take us a bit longer since we started 2 months behind everyone else getting into ICC.

A note about the dps requirements:

The tank gets a stacking (de)buff that increases the damage he does. But if it stacks to 10, he blows up the whole raid. This is why you bring 2 tanks, to swap at 8 or 9 stacks (8 to be safe, you do NOT want him to explode). Then while the second tank is taking the damage, your first tank switches stance/presence to go all-out dps doing an extra 80% damage thanks to the “debuff”. You want to change stances to avoid pulling aggro back. Then, when the 2nd tank is at 8-9 stacks, your first tank needs to switch BACK to tanking and taunt off again.

Because your tanks are doing more damage, the requirement is not as ludicrous as it seems, but it is still a gearcheck. Don’t give up without trying, give it a few whacks.

    Re: Festergut

2 tanks, 3 healers, 5 dps. If only dps are doing damage, dps CAN NOT be less than 5K. The group I ran with had both tanks pulling almost 2K, then 3, 4, 4, 5, and 6. We missed the enrage timer but milliseconds. (6400hp left one attempt) If the guy doing 3 had been doing 4 at least then we would have had it. Just saying. Best bet though…no dps less than 5K.

You’ve probably got one other DPSer that can do that *looks around*

Grats on all the kills. I am so getting a Saturday off sometime soon. I don’t want to miss out on this! XD

For future reference, when it comes to boss enrage timers, you can figure out rDPS (raid wide dps), then divide it by the number of actual DPSers you have in your raid.

A normal Festergut 10 comp has 2 tanks, 3 healers, and 5 dps. The fight can only last 300 seconds (5 minutes). Festergut has 9 million hp in ICC 10. SO it looks like this:

    9,000,000/300 = 30,000 rDPS

    30,000/5 = 6,000 dps/DPSer

Now there is some leeway in this. The “debuff” that festergut puts on the tank will significantly up their dps, and in turn, the rDPS. If you factor in tanks as dps, it will look something like this (aDPS = Average DPS):

    30,000/7 = 4,285.7~4,286 dps/DPSer(plus tanks)

So, to find a good average dps, it is as simple as adding the 2 numbers together and dividing by 2:

    6000 + 4,286 = 10,286

    10,286/2 = 5,143 aDPS/DPSer

When you break it down like that, it doesn’t look so bad. Everyone forgets to add in tank dps to rDPS. Tank dps still matters and can be the difference between a kill and a wipe.
