Last night I finished the first part of the quest chain to get my awesome staff of awesomeness (see yesterday’s post if you have questions) and during the end of the raid I went to go complete the next step. I was unaware of what I was going to be facing (I did want to be surprised) so I was surprised at how long it was taking me. I actually had to tell the raid to go forward without me because it was going to take a LOT longer than I originally thought.
WARNING! AHEAD ARE SPOILERS FOR THE LEGENDARY QUEST CHAIN. IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW THEN DON’T KEEP LOOKING!!! ALSO! DO NOT CLICK THE VIDEO LINKS!!!!
Is this far enough down? Ok!
So I zone into the “Nexus” (it has the Oculus loading screen so it threw me off) and start off. After the 5th death I had to find a video to figure out what the hell I was doing wrong.
I found this one – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQxVOSBR0HY of a mage completing the chain. I found where I was doing things wrong and changed up my strats. I was able to make it through the first hurdles then after some more dying (seriously I died like 10 or 12 times by this point) I figured out how to finish clearing to the final boss.
Now this is where I was having serious problems. I saw how the cheating mage was handling the boss (spell stealing is cheating ok :-p) and I had to figure out how to compensate for it. Everything that I was reading for warlocks was telling me to make sure I keep my dots up (well duh) and to drain life as much as possible to stay alive. I also saw the tip to kite the flame down the ramp so that I could get a head start on the adds. The adds seem to spawn a hell of a lot faster than the “every 60 seconds” BS that I keep hearing but whatever. The nice thing with the adds is they won’t attack you until they reach the top of the platform. If you are at the bottom of the ramp then you can dot up the add while it runs past you then drain life it dead as it is coming back to you. This was working for me for about every other add. I don’t know if my instance was just bugged or what but the adds kept coming pretty quickly.
Another issue I kept having was my puppy kept bugging out. Since I need my pet to interrupt and dispell it was kind of important for him to NOT bug out. On one attempt I didn’t have a pet bar! I’ve been getting that error quite a lot lately. Since I don’t use any UI modifying addons I don’t know why I’m having that issue. The easiest way to fix it is to re-summon my pet. Unfortunately sometimes doing that will bug out the pet to where he doesn’t move and doesn’t do any of his abilities. From what others are reading (and telling me) this is a known issue and just something I have to deal with.
/sigh
Zarm was awesome and found a forum topic for me that is giving me some ideas – http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/2973018600. I had already thought about changing my spec a bit so now I have even more of a reason to adjust it. I think I will also get my T12 gloves. They aren’t part of my full 4 piece that I want but they are the only piece I can get without losing my 2 piece T11 bonus (which is rather nice). From everything I am reading it is a long fight of attrition and every little thing I can do to ensure my survival needs to be done.
Slice sent me this video – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMEVAMZMCxw&feature=related. It is from an affliction warlock point of view (it is only the 2nd half of the place). Found out what I was doing wrong on the ramp. I was running down the middle because it didn’t occur to me to just kite along one edge then run up the other side until I could use my portal (yes I had my portal down). So I will try that tonight. I am hoping that will cut down on the time spent NOT draining life from the boss.
Once this part is complete then I get to move on to the NEXT part of the chain. This part will require me doing stuff during the first four (Shannox, Beth, Rhyolith & Alysrazor) fights to charge some items. Once I have four charged items I get to open a way to ANOTHER boss that luckily the entire raid gets to help me kill. Once that guy is dead I will get the first staff. I can’t wait for this staff as it is a nice upgrade from my current staff. The one I have drops off Beth and has crit and mastery on it. The branch has hit and haste. Om nom nom nom!
Anyway, if anyone else has any tips or suggestions please feel free to leave them in the comments section! Thanks in advance!
I have to do all the things!

Much love to Hyperbole and a Half for the awesomesause phrase stealing I did. Is it really stealing when you give them credit afterwards?
Eh who knows!
ANYWAY!
I have sooooooooooooo much personal stuff going on (that I can’t talk about just yet, and if you know please don’t bring it up in the comments) and add to that my normal game time stuff equals one stressed warlock. My biggest thing right now is just getting everything organized so that I can get it done in the correct amount of time.
Plus I am very lazy, like seriously lazy.
Trust me, it’s bad.
Take Monday night (yesterday). Every other Monday (or so it is supposed to be) is the alt T11 run. We try to get people in who don’t normally raid with us and the main raiders bring their alts who need gear. As I mentioned before, it is supposed to happen every OTHER Monday but it has happened the last 3 Mondays. We can blame Arv for that one. He set one up last week for his buddy who just joined us. This means that if I join in on the alt run then I have 3 days in a row where I can’t get anything done at home. With all the new stuff piled on my plate I just cannot raid on Monday anymore. Normally this isn’t an issue because we will usually have enough people. Unfortunately Slice likes to bring me instead of asking other guildies who didn’t sign up. One day he will understand that I am not like him and don’t like to raid 24/7.
Some days I almost feel like I want to sit out on our normal Tuesday/Wednesday runs but then I remember about my awesome staff of awesomeness and how I wants it precious! So I suck it up and come raid. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE raiding with my guildies. We always have such fun and it is worth it to come raid.
Unless I don’t eat before/during the raid, then I am a HORRIBLE MEAN BITCH who HATES EVERYONE and all that jazz.
It apparently got bad enough that Sorak even now reminds me to eat something before the raid. 😀
Yes he really is a sweetheart, when he isn’t being a brat.
Things are really looking good for SR right now. We are 6/7 in Firelands and should be able to get Rag down soon. As of this afternoon I am 22/25 embers for the first quest chain. We have been EXTREMELY lucky with our ember drops. I think we have only had 1 or 2 bosses who didn’t drop an ember for me. I haven’t really done a whole lot of research into the quest chain because I kind of want to be surprised about what happens. I know that Slice has read up on it and he tells me that I have at least 2 more long collection quests. I know that we will be doing this for a while so I am not super worried. At the worst I will finish up the staff in an alt run when we are on the next tier, but finish it I will!
Slice was asking me the other day if I have found a fight in Firelands that I don’t like. Honestly I like all of them. Rhyolith might be a big pain in the ass (at least until they nerfed him to hell and back) but I still liked the fight. As of right now (since we haven’t seen all of Rag) Alysrazor is my favorite fight. I love all aspects of it. I’ve flown and I’ve been on ground duty. Yes it seems like a crazy fight, but it really isn’t tough at all if you just look at it piece by piece. I think my favorite part about it is being able to cast and run at the same time. I love not losing my shadow bolt casts when I have to move for a brushfire. Being useful with interrupts with my puppy is pretty awesome too. On those few times when I get to fly (Zuggie usually is flying because he is a fire mage) I get SUPER excited when I get the crit buff from the 25 ring hit. It lets me know that I am being good with hitting rings. This fight has so many little things that make me happy so I just can’t pick one.
What I can’t seem to understand is why all the stuff I need drops off Domo and Rag. It almost feels like half my BiS stuff only drops off those two guys. Since we are such a pally/priest heavy raid I will be the last person to see my 4 piece T12. Which isn’t that bad when you realize I am getting the awesome staff of awesomeness but by the time I get the staff, T12 will be almost done. Oh well. It does drive me nuts when other people are always bitching that they get that particular token to drop every time and no one can use it anymore. It is like rubbing salt in the wound!
Funny thing happened in gchat last night. They were running the T11 alt run (which I skipped) and apparently Atramedes dropped the shoulders. Now in case you aren’t aware, Lyssi’s last blue item was her shoulders. I was raiding and downing bosses in Firelands with 346 shoulders because no cloth ones dropped and anytime the token dropped off Cho’gall it was given to someone else. The worst time was when it was given to someone who ALREADY HAD purple shoulders. I was so mad that night. Anyway I digress. It was last week I think that Rhyolith dropped the mage clone shoulders. Zuggie wasn’t there so I was able to snag them! Apparently Sorak wasn’t paying attention that night because he had Grom link the shoulders that Atramedes dropped to taunt me. The joke’s on you Sorak! I laughed and congratulated Grom then linked my 378 shoulders in gchat for Sorak to see when he couldn’t understand why I wasn’t upset. Good times!
I take back what I said above about him being a sweetheart.
Last weekend I rocked out on my mage, this weekend I was hooked on my baby lock. Not much has really changed from where I left her off last, at least playstyle/spec-wise, but I was really hooked on leveling her. The purpose of her leveling has been to experience the new leveling experience in the old world. I went through the new plaguelands, the revamped Badlands (I got to punch Deathwing in the FACE!) and then this weekend the Swamp of Sorrows and half of the Blasted Lands. I had done the other half of the Blasted Lands quests on PPP so I don’t think they are that much different for Alliance. I will probably finish them out on the baby lock anyway. The baby murlocs are just too cute not to.
I have already started thinking about the next toon that I want to level. I have several ones that are just sitting there with rested XP and yet I have this urge to make a Draenei Paladin. I had one that I loved over on Skywall and she doesn’t look like she will be dusted off ever again. I also want to make a Worgen. I’m not sure what kind of Worgen, but I need one. So yeah, too many alts and not enough time!
I need a vacation so I can just play WoW for a week.
Yeah like that’ll happen >.<

Failmage returns!

Ahhhhhh, the glorious return of failmage! Sometimes you just forget how much fun you can have blowing things up with fire. 😀
My poor failmage got moved from Bloodhoof over to Skywall when Slice transferred his priest to play with Choice. She spent the last months of Wrath farming herbs and making a killing on the markets on Skywall. She did so well that I was able to get Slice a chopper for his birthday. Times were good.
After Slice left Skywall and went back to Drak I stopped logging into failmage. With no one playing on Skywall anymore there just wasn’t a reason to check on her. I got caught up in the new and improved SR and just left her to rot.
Fast forward to this weekend.
Slice originally moved his mage over to Winterhoof to play with Rep’s Alliance guild; Sorak also followed and brought his rogue over. Both of them are now raiding regularly with Crits. I made a dorf lock and had been regularly leveling her to eventually be a back up raider for them. I wasn’t in any rush though. I love raiding, but I don’t know how well I would do with 4-5 nights of raiding a week. Sometimes 2 nights is too much. The lock was more just to be helpful than anything else.
I was leveling the baby lock on Friday night (punching Deathwing in the FACE!) and something got me thinking about failmage. I’m not sure what it was but I started thinking that I should transfer her over to Winterhoof because nothing was ever going to happen on Skywall (despite our guild there) and if I was going to see the Alliance version of the new Cata zones any time soon it would probably end up being on Winterhoof. I still have Millea over on Bloodhoof but I don’t really want to move her. She is still a member of Echo of Fate and I kind of like knowing that I still have one toon left in that guild.
Since I was getting paid after midnight I had to wait until Saturday to set up the transfer. I logged over to failmage and OMG all the crap she had in her bags. She had tons of Wrath-era food (mostly fish) and other type stuff. Like her bags were full of Wrath crap. Not even stuff that could be sold for leveling. Funny thing though, she has over 1800 JP left over from the end of Wrath. This is, of course, awesome. I cleaned up all of her crap, mailed off a bunch to my bank toon on Skywall and made the transfer.
I get to Winterhoof and Rep whispers me on Real ID “WTF 80 mage?” and promptly invites me to the guild. Slice isn’t online yet so he has no idea what I’ve done. Sorak is online but he decided to ignore me. It isn’t like he isn’t on Real ID or anything, but I digress. I usually start out in Hyjal then go to Vashj’ir afterwards. I decided to start her out differently and send her straight to Vash.
Ok! No problem! I was in IF (I preferred it to SW prior to Cata) so I mount up on my mount (wondering the entire time why my bronze drake is greyed out) and hit the space bar to move up.
WTF?
/sigh
She didn’t have old world flying.
To make matters worse she had to get it in SW.
Good thing she is a mage huh?
I ported over to SW and had to run (*cries*) all the way over from the mage tower to the flying trainer. Stupid SW and the stupid canals. I finally get my flying trained and life is good!
I had yet to see SW as Alliance since Cata dropped. It is actually really cool looking from the air. Org was completely rebuilt so it was set up with flying around as the norm. SW wasn’t. You really feel like you are doing something special when you fly over it. A part of me still can’t get over the fact that I can fly over the entire town and I don’t have to run through all the stupid canals and arches. I have to catch myself when I start running on the ground. It doesn’t help that my mount of choice is the Headless Horseman’s mount.
I was good and did remember to train my professions. Found out that I was not maxed in first aid. So I bought a bunch of Frostweave (man that stuff is expensive) and quickly leveled it to Cata levels. I listed most of my Wrath stuff in the hopes of selling some of it (borean leather scraps sold, wtf?) and making back some monies. I was sitting at under 100g after doing all of my training (and buying stupid expensive Frostweave) so I wanted to get back to a comfortable level. I knew that questing would net me some good money so I headed out.
The intro to Vashj for the Alliance is quite different from the Horde version. The little snippets of conversation from the NPCs is really neat. You really get an idea of what their stance is. One of the things I enjoy about playing both sides is seeing the different verbage on the quests. It might be the EXACT SAME quest as you get from the other side but the what the quest says is completely different. I’ve said it, others have said it, and it is still true, you just cannot get the full story without seeing both sides. So seriously, if you haven’t leveled one faction or the other, do it. Just to see the other side and understand the whole thing.
Right now the main thing I am looking forward to is the Alliance side of Twilight Highlands.
While I am merrily questing away Slice comes online. I whisper him with “hi” (not on Real ID) and he says hi back. I can tell he has NO clue who I am. I give him a few then whisper him “and in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 . . .” LOL about 2 mins later you can see the lightbulb go off. I laughed so hard. He was all “In my defense I haven’t seen this name in a while.” Excuses, excuses! By this time I was already 81 and working my way towards 82.
I decided that I was only going to do the quests in Vashj up to unlocking the Earthen Ring Quartermaster then I would head out to Hyjal. I had already replaced about half of my gear (she was in 4 piece tier 9!) and was already seeing a difference in how things were dying. Now don’t get me wrong, I had already pulled a few failmage moments. First was when I started questing in Vashj with my chef’s hat on. I couldn’t understand why I was dropping in health so quickly and why NOTHING would die. I just assumed it was because of my fail gear from Wrath. Nope! Failmage strikes again! I honestly didn’t even know until I saw that I had a helmet as a reward and I was mousing over to see the stats. Yup! Chef’s hat.
/sigh
I already kind of fail because for some unknown reason I default to spamming Pyroblast when I am being hit in the face by a mob. Yes this is stupid, yes I fail. Trust me I know. To this day I have yet to learn the mage class. It isn’t like I didn’t level her from 1 to 80 in my fire spec (which I totally did) or that the spec changed (not really all that much from what I remembered) I just suck at mage. The biggest thing that throws me off is Scorch; more specifically being able to move and cast Scorch. It messes up my groove. Moving is supposed to STOP my casting of the wrong spell, not ALLOW it to go through. >.<
No I haven’t accidentally pulled with Scorch when I tried to stop it. No, not me!
/facepalm
All things considered I really did end up having a blast. Luckily I had the full rested (2 1/2 levels worth) XP bar and I was able to get to 82 (98% to 83) on Saturday night. I dinged 83 on Sunday afternoon (when I woke up) and have since moved on to Deepholm. I haven’t had this much fun leveling in quite some time. Even with this being my 5th time through the Cata zones, doing it as Alliance has just enough of a change of flavor that I am looking at it with a whole new view. Good times will be had!
As in the past, failmage will NOT be raiding. I did a random dungeon (I got VP, I am kind of shocked it wasn’t Stonecore) and wasn’t doing too badly. I wasn’t number 1 by any stretch of the imagination but I held my own. Especially against that stupid hunter who couldn’t even trap correctly. BTW when someone is assigning CC targets and says “banish one and freeze another” you DO NOT freeze the banished target. ESPECIALLY when the targets are marked. Stupid huntards.
I guess I just got spoiled by all the good hunters in my guild.
Anyway, failmage will not be raiding. She might do some randoms here and there, but probably not. She will be a farm bot to make me monies. Without a tailor to feed I can use her transmutes to feed my need for gold. Once I hit 85 on her I will switch the focus to the baby lock. I need her inscription skills to pay my bills!
Hmm, looks like I just might be playing Alliance a bit more than planned.
Oh! A funny thing happened on Friday night. Zerl (whom I also have on Real ID, seriously who don’t I have on there?!) saw that a bunch of us were on Winterhoof and decided to roll a toon to play with us. He made a baby pally to which Sorak teased him about being pink. Note that Sorak is playing on a female toon, but I digress. Apparently he ALSO transferred a toon over to Winterhoof. I guess he had a level 70 (or 71, can’t remember) rogue on another server collecting dust and decided to bring it over to the Alliance side. He had been debating on if he should bring it to Drak but ultimately decided on having a higher level alt on Winterhoof. THEN as he was there on his rogue and I was there on my mage, Tel logs in on his hunter and Zari logs in on his priest. We were just missing Arv, Zarm and Zug. It was too funny!
